Our great nation is in the midst of a great moral, economic, political, and environmental crisis. The country is divided in myriad ways- urban and rural, white collar and blue collar, religious and secular, thriving and struggling.
While some of these divisions are inevitable in a country of 330 million people, many of these divisions have been deliberately fueled by cynical and craven politicians, along with their strategists and donors.
We now stand at the tail end of a radical 40-year project that has successfully broken the federal government and undermined our democracy. Never before has our country been in such dire need of real leadership- and never before has it so lacked.
The great statesmen of generations past, who led us through wars, financial panics, and depressions, who built the strongest middle class the world has ever known, are few and far between in today’s Congress. Too many of our current politicians are out of ideas, out of energy, and out of touch.
This vacuum of leadership and the ensuing political chaos of recent years has left us all wondering what it means to be an American today- what holds us together, what our purpose is, and what unites us in this loud, fast, and complicated world.
Never before has our country been in such dire need of real leadership. Too many of our current politicians are out of ideas, out of energy, and out of touch.
I’m running for US Congress in Virginia’s 9th district, because the country I love is running out of time to correct course.
I spent my past years in Washington, DC learning as much as I could about the realities of politics and policy- always with the goal of coming back home to represent and serve the people and places I love in my Southwest Virginia home.
As your US representative, I will fearlessly deploy my extensive governmental experience to make real improvements in the lives of Virginians and all Americans. My years in Washington helped me develop a thick skin and a realistic understanding of how the US government actually works.
So unlike other candidates, I won’t be overwhelmed by the requirements and responsibilities of this great and honorable role, should I be so fortunate to fill it. And unlike other politicians, I will dedicate every minute of my time to serve the interests of Southwest Virginia– not the Big Money or Special Interests.
Since I know the inside game and all the political tricks, I won’t be seduced or cajoled by any smooth-talking lobbyists or well-heeled donors.
At this point in the history of our great nation, we simply can’t keep wasting time with nasty partisanship and blind adherence to outdated ideologies. We must reclaim the American dream from those who have tarnished it, and return to our founding principles of common prosperity and equal treatment under the law.
Our country needs a new generation of smart, tough leaders who have fresh ideas about how to fix things. I have the experience, the ideas, and the tenacity to fight for Southwest Virginia in Congress-and make the powerful listen.
The time has come to get serious about Making our Government Work Again– for the middle class, for our children, and for the planet. I believe I have the skills, the temperament, and the character to do just that.
